Product Overview
Pathogen testing often involves unknown or mixed targets. A specimen may carry viruses, bacteria, or fungi, and the laboratory needs an extraction method that recovers all of them without running a separate kit for each organism. The Spin Pathogen DNA/RNA Kit is designed for total pathogen RNA and DNA extraction from a wide range of specimens, including serum, plasma, milk, body fluids, culture medium, tissue homogenates, and swabs. It recovers viral DNA/RNA, bacterial DNA/RNA, and fungal DNA/RNA, as well as host cellular total DNA and RNA, so one extraction workflow can serve laboratories that screen for different pathogen types. The kit is built on silica-column purification technology, which eliminates toxic phenol-chloroform extraction and time-consuming ethanol precipitation. This simplifies the procedure and improves laboratory safety. Purified RNA is directly compatible with RT-PCR, Northern blotting, viral detection, and other downstream assays. Purified DNA can be applied directly to conventional PCR, real-time quantitative PCR, viral detection, and related analyses.

Product Features
- Recovers viral, bacterial, and fungal nucleic acids: One kit covers the DNA and RNA of viruses, bacteria, and fungi, supporting laboratories that screen for multiple pathogen types from the same specimen.
- Broad specimen compatibility: The kit works with serum, plasma, milk, body fluids, culture medium, tissue homogenates, swabs, and other specimens, reducing the need for sample-specific extraction kits.
- Solvent-free, precipitation-free silica-column workflow: Silica-column purification removes the need for toxic phenol-chloroform extraction and ethanol precipitation, giving a safer and more streamlined procedure.
FAQ
Q1: Which types of pathogens can this kit recover?
The kit recovers viral DNA/RNA, bacterial DNA/RNA, and fungal DNA/RNA, so it is suitable for laboratories that need to test for more than one type of pathogen from the same specimen.
Q2: Will host nucleic acids also be extracted?
Yes. The kit also recovers host cellular total DNA and RNA from the specimen, so the extract contains pathogen and host nucleic acids together. Downstream assays should use pathogen-specific primers and probes, and the proportion of host material will depend on the specimen type.
Q3: What downstream applications is the purified nucleic acid suitable for?
Purified RNA is directly compatible with RT-PCR, Northern blotting, viral detection, and other downstream assays. Purified DNA can be applied directly to conventional PCR, real-time quantitative PCR, viral detection, and related analyses.
